True to the aphorism that Saturday is “moving day” in a golf tournament, the Northern Trust leaderboard got a major shakeup in Round 3 on Saturday, with several players joining the top group for the first time. However, they’ll have to wait to play their final round.
Because of Sunday’s tropical storm warning for Jersey City, NJ, where the Northern Trust is taking place, the PGA postponed the final round to Monday. Players will play in groups of three and start from both the first and tenth tees to complete play more quickly, with coverage on the Golf Channel from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET.
On Saturday, Jon Rahm maintained his share of the lead with an overall score of 16-under, but he’s now joined by Cameron Smith of Australia, who had a blistering round of 11-under that included no bogeys.

Just one stroke back is Eric van Rooyen of South Africa, who was only at 6-under coming into the day. Two other golfers went 9-under on Saturday to storm up the leaderboard: Ireland’s Shane Lowry (-13) and Canada’s Corey Connors (-12). Justin Thomas and Tony Finau remained within striking distance, now tied for fourth at 14-under.

The top 125 golfers are competing at Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, New Jersey, this week, with only the top 70 in the standings making it through to the BMW Championship. From there, the top 30 golfers will compete for the FedEx Cup title and $15 million in bonus money at the Tour Championship.
Collin Morikawa entered the first postseason tournament as the top-ranked golfer with 2,171 points. Morikawa secured two PGA Tour victories, highlighted by his Open Championship win, and eight total top-10 finishes in the regular season. Behind Morikawa in second is 2015 FedEx Cup champ Jordan Spieth, who tallied 2,139 points after recording one Tour win and nine finishes inside the top 10.
Patrick Cantlay (2,056 points), Harris English (2,039) and Rahm (2,003) round out the top five.
Reigning FedEx Cup winner Dustin Johnson is ranked 17th. The other previous winners in the field are Thomas (2017 champ), No. 25 Billy Horschel (2014), No. 26 Rory McIlroy (2016 and 2019) and No. 100 Brandt Snedeker (2012).
2018 champion Justin Rose, who finished one spot shy of qualifying at No. 126, and Rickie Fowler are among the notable names who failed to advance to the playoffs.
The winners of the Northern Trust and BMW Championship will receive 2,000 points.
