What time does Kentucky Derby start? 2019 Churchill Downs race schedule

The 145th Kentucky Derby might be the most exciting two minutes in sports, but there will be plenty of other horse racing Saturday at Churchill Downs. 

The Derby is the 12th of 14 races scheduled at the iconic venue, with the first starting at 7:30 a.m. PT. That might be a bit early for watch parties here on the West Coast, but you will have plenty of opportunities to whet your horse-racing whistle before the main event begins at 3:50 p.m. PT/6:50 p.m. ET.

Pre-race television coverage begins on NBCSN at 9 a.m. PT/noon ET, then shifts to NBC at 11:30 a.m. PT/2:30 p.m. ET. You can stream NBC's coverage of the 145th Kentucky Derby live on NBCSports.com and on the NBC Sports app.

Katie Humann of Adams Middle School in Brentwood, Calif. Named 2019 All-Star Teacher,

$20,000 Check Presented in Her Honor

 

Each All-Star Teacher Award Runner-Up to Receive $2,000 for His/Her School

 

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – June 24, 2019 – NBC Sports Bay Area announced today that Katie Humann of Adams Middle School in Brentwood, Calif. is the winner of the 2019 All-Star Teacher Award, presented by Provident Credit Union.  Humann has been awarded $20,000 for her school.  In addition, each All-Star Teacher Award runner-up will receive $2,000 for his/her school.

 

In its 13th year, the All-Star Teacher Award recognizes middle and high school teachers in Northern and Central California for their extraordinary dedication to their students and significant presence within their communities.  An esteemed panel of judges selected this year’s finalists based on four categories: Overall Commitment; Excellence in Teaching; Rapport with Students; and Level of Distinction.  This year’s five finalists are: Marquel Coats, Greenleaf TK-8 (Oakland), Awele Makeba, Skyline High School (Oakland), Bill Schrier, Carmel High School (Carmel), Matt Tate, Sierra High School (Manteca) and 2019 All-Star Teacher Katie Humann.

 

Since its inception in 2007, the All-Star Teacher Award program has donated funds to public schools in Northern and Central California.  For the ninth straight year, NBC Sports Bay Area has teamed up with Provident Credit Union to award the winning teacher’s school $20,000, up from $10,000 in past years. 

 

This year’s elite panel of judges consists of Doug Bartlett, Senior Marketing Director, BART; Benito Delgado-Olson, Executive Director and Founder, SupplyBank.org; John Haggarty, VP Marketing of Provident Credit Union; Lorena Hernandez, Director of Community Investment, Comcast California; Detra Paige, Director of Community Relations, Oakland Athletics; and Sue Petersen, Executive Director of the Giants Community Fund.

Open Call to Northern California Artists – Submissions: Today to July 9th

 

A’s & Giants-Themed Art Exhibit During Bay Bridge Series,

August 13-14 at Oracle Park and August 24-25 at the Oakland Coliseum

 

“The Bridge,” Trophy Awarded to Winner of A’s-Giants Bay Bridge Series,

on Public Display at Show

 

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – June 21, 2019 – NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California – “Home of Authentic Bay Area Sports” – and the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants today announced the second annual Battle of the Bay Art Show and an open call to Northern California artists.  The A’s and Giants-themed art exhibit takes place during the Bay Bridge Series – August 13-14 at Oracle Park and August 24-25 at the Oakland Coliseum. Northern California artists are encouraged to submit their artwork for consideration at: NBCSportsBayArea.com/BattleOfTheBayArt.  Submission dates: Today to July 9th

 

The Battle of the Bay Art Show will take place adjacent to Oracle Park’s Giants Vault (located inside the Lefty O’Doul Gate) and at the Oakland Coliseum’s Championship Plaza.  The exhibit is accessible to all fans inside the ballpark.  To purchase game tickets for August 13-14 at Oracle Park click HERE, for August 24-25 game tickets at the Oakland Coliseum, click HERE.  Admission to the art show is free with the purchase of a ticket to the game.

 

The Battle of the Bay Art Show will feature A’s and Giants-themed art, including legends, current players, mascots, stadiums and abstract representations. Art will be in various art forms: oil and acrylic paintings; graphite, ink and spray paint art; photography; and sculpture. The artists will have the opportunity to sell their artwork, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Oakland A’s Community Fund and the Giants Community Fund. 

 

Fans will have the opportunity to take a photo with The Bridge – the official trophy to be presented to the winner of the A’s and Giants Bay Bridge Series – at the Battle of the Bay Art Show.  The Bridge is made with steel salvaged from the original East Span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. 

 

Last season, the A’s were the inaugural winner of The Bridge, winning four of their six regular-season match-ups with the Giants.  The A's clinched the trophy on July 22 when Marcus Semien scored the winning run on Matt Chapman’s walk-off hit, beating the Giants 6-5 in 10 innings in the rivals' final interleague contest.
