Antonio Brown, cut by Raiders, agrees to one-year Patriots contract

That didn't take long.

Within hours of the Raiders releasing him, star wide receiver Antonio Brown agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New England Patriots.

Bleacher Report's Master Tesfatsion was the first to report the news, and Drew Rosenhaus, Brown's agent, confirmed the news to ProFootballTalk.

Brown's deal is worth up to $15 million with a $9 million signing bonus, Rosenhaus told PFT, and the receiver shared his excitement on social media.

Brown, in what might as well be a sped-up sequel to Hall of Fame receiver Randy Moss' Raiders stint that ended with him in a Patriots uniform, lasted fewer than six months in Oakland. The Raiders traded a third- and fifth-round draft pick to Pittsburgh to land Brown, whose relationship with the Steelers, coach Mike Tomlin and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had eroded by the end of the 2018 season.

It was a cut-rate price for a superstar talent, and the Raiders thought Brown could help send out their final season in Oakland in style. Brown's arrival to Raiders training camp in Napa via hot-air balloon proved to be just a tease of the drama to come.

The four-time All-Pro did not play in a single preseason game and missed much of training camp while rehabbing from frostbitten feet. Brown also filed not one but two helmet grievances with the NFL and parlayed that into a new helmet deal.

This week, the Raiders fined Brown for missing a practice and a walk-through. Brown confronted general manager Mike Mayock on Wednesday, and apologized to his teammates Friday. The Raiders ultimately fined Brown $215,073.53 for conduct detrimental to the team, allowing them to void the guarantees in his contract. Brown then asked the Raiders to release him in a Saturday-morning Instagram post, and news broke of him joining the Patriots about eight hours later.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden said Saturday that the team "tried every way possible to make it work" with Brown, and that he hoped the receiver "gets what he's looking for." Based on Brown's social-media reaction, it appears that he did.
