Bair's key matchups: Raiders vs. Patriots
Raiders vs. Patriots
The Raiders (0-2) travel to Foxboro to take on Tom Brady and the Patriots (1-1) in Week 3 of the 2014 regular season. Here are the top matchups to watch Sunday.
Tyvon Branch vs. Rob Gronkowski
Branch might be best suited to handle a hulking speedster like Gronkowski, though he poses matchup problems against virtually anyone. Branch has been solid in run defense (save a few missed tackles) and decent in coverage, through that’s not his strong suit.
Darren McFadden vs. Vince Wilfork
The Raiders prefer to run inside, meaning they’ll have to contend with nose tackle Vince Wilfork, a hulk who has made his name as a run stopper. If McFadden can run around him – through him might not be fruitful – and make steady gains, the Raiders could keep things competitive.
Charles Woodson vs. Tom Brady
While quarterbacks can play into their late 30s, Woodson is a physical marvel. Playing defensive back at 37 years old is virtually unheard of, but Woodson keeps on ticking. Brady is as competitive as ever, which makes him virtually unstoppable when it’s combined with scheme mastery and top-tier talent. His .772 winning percentage is the best of the Super Bowl era.
