Charles, Smith run wild on Raiders
Charles gets loose on first play
After returning the opening kickoff to midfield, the Chiefs wasted no time in getting on the board. Jamaal Charles caught a pass in the flat and took it 49 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Oakland answered with a field goal, cutting the lead to 7-3.
The end of Chiefs second drive was reminiscent of the first. Charles caught another pass to the left flat and scooted to the endzone, this time for 39 yards.
Berry picks McGloin to the house
As Oakland aimed to answer the score, Matt McGloin erred on a pass over the middle and was picked off by Eric Berry. Berry returned the interception 47 yards for a touchdown. The Chiefs led 21-3.
Jennings closes the gap
The Raiders put together a successful drive toward the end of the first quarter, and scored on the second play of the second quarter. Rashad Jennings finished off the 80-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
McGloin fumbles, Charles scores again
Matt McGloin fumbled deep in Raider territory to set up Kansas City's next score. The Chiefs took over at the Oakland 11 and scored on three plays, capped by a Jamaal Charles one-yard run.
Berry picks McGloin again, Charles cashes in
McGloin then turned the ball over again, giving Eric Berry his second pick of the game. Kansas City immediately scored again when Alex Smith hooked up with Jamaal Charles yet again, on a 16 yard score. The rout was on as the score was pushed to 35-10.
Jennings gets his second touchdown
Oakland came back with another successful drive. They went 65 yards on eight plays capped by Rashad Jennings' one-yard dive over the pile. The lead shrunk to 35-17 and remained until halftime.
Taiwan goes deep, Holmes finishes the drive
To open the second half, the Raiders struck quickly. Taiwan Jones caught a 52-yard pass to set Oakland up near the goal and Andre Holmes finished the drive with a 6-yard touchdown catch.
21 unanswered points
After a stop, the Raiders cut deeper into the lead. Andre Holmes made a spectacular one-handed catch on third down to keep the drive alive. Then, McGloin tossed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Mychal Rivera, closing the gap to just 35-31.
Charles stifles hopes, sets record
The Chiefs worked to eliminate any momentum Oakland had gained, scoring on their third play of the ensuing drive. Charles ripped off a 71-yard touchdown reception to build the lead to 42-31. The score was Charles' fifth of the day, and his fourth receiving, an NFL record for running backs.
Smith caps rout, sets career high
Taiwan Jones fumbled the following kickoff, and Kansas City recovered at the Oakland 28. Alex Smith again moved the team to paydirt, throwing a 6-yard touchdown to Sean McGrath. It was Smith's fifth touchdown of the day, setting his career high. The Chiefs would add another touchdown in the fourth quarter as both teams waited for the clock to run out, leaving the final score 56-31.
