Mario Edwards attended Ryan High School in Denton, Texas and Yahoo! Rivals ranked him as a five-star recruit and the third best player in the 2011 class. USA Today named Edwards the Defensive Player of the Year as he recorded 32 tackles for loss and 11 sacks in his senior season.
Anchoring the Seminoles
Edwards was the only freshman to start a game for the Seminoles defense in 2012. In his sophomore season, he became a key contributor to the third best defense in the nation. He had 3.5 sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss, forced a fumble, and returned an interception for a touchdown in 11 starts in 2013. In the Seminoles' 34-31 win over Auburn in the National Championship, Edwards had 3.5 tackles for loss, including one sack.
Edwards was an All ACC First-Team selection and was named an All-American by Sports Illustrated in his junior year. He finished the season with 44 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles.
With the 35th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected Mario Edwards. He was the second selection for the Raiders after they chose Amari Cooper in the first round.
