Gruden wore Oakland Raiders hat during Las Vegas' game

If you're still having trouble referring to the Raiders as the Las Vegas Raiders, have no fear. Even head coach Jon Gruden makes the slip up.

The Raiders' head coach was spotted sporting an Oakland Raiders hat on the sideline in the first half of Las Vegas' 30-27 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday. However, he did make a quick wardrobe fix at halftime and was quick to apologize after the game.

"I will say I apologize for not having the right hat on," Gruden said to the media. "Somebody played a pretty good trick on me."

Gruden's goof was a small light in an otherwise dismal night for Las Vegas. Not only did the Raiders drop the contest, quarterback Derek Carr suffered a groin injury late in the first quarter and did not return. The loss dropped Las Vegas to 7-7, and while it did not mathematically eliminate them from the playoffs, it did make securing a spot exponentially harder.

The good news was that Marcus Mariota, a former No. 2 overall selection by the Tennessee Titans, shined off the bench. The former Titans starter came in and marched the Raiders down the field for a seven-play, 86-yard drive that resulted in a 35-yard touchdown pass to Darren Waller. Mariota finished the game with 226 passing yards and 88 rushing yards, while throwing for one touchdown and running one in.

After the contest, Gruden did not provide an update on Carr's status. He did say -- according to the San Jose Mercury News' Curtis Pashelka -- while he didn't believe the quarterback's injury was a real tear, but "if he can't finish the game, it's got to be pretty significant."

Carr has put up substantial numbers this season. He came into Thursday's matchup with a 68.2 percent completion rate, throwing for 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The Oakland Las Vegas Raiders will hope Carr's injury is nothing serious as they battle incredible odds to slide into the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
