NFL rumors: Raiders working out free-agent guard Richie Incognito

The player acquisition period in the NFL is pretty much over, but the Raiders still are looking to shore up their offensive line.

Oakland worked out former Pro Bowl offensive tackle Richie Incognito on Monday, but a league source told NBC Sports California that he left the team's Alameda training complex without a contract. Mutual interest in a pact remains, and could come together in the future.

Incognito is in great physical shape, sources say, and is hoping for a return to the NFL after some time away.

Incognito did not play last season. He retired at the end of the 2017 campaign, but then unretired in April of 2018. He refused to show up to the Buffalo Bills offseason workouts and was placed on the reserved/retired list. Incognito claimed he did not want to play for the Bills and was taken off the reserved/retired list in May of 2018 and cut by the Bills.

Incognito has had some run-ins with the law since leaving the NFL, incidents where his mental health has been called into some question. He pleaded guilty last month to disorderly conduct and got probation for an Aug. 2018 incident where he threated some at an Arizona funeral home following his father's death. He was also required to undergo a mental-health evalution. He also was invovled in a March 2018 incident at a Florida gym where he made threats to another person and was forced to undergo an involuntary psychiatric evaluation.

The guard is mostly known for the bullying scandal that took place during his time with the Miami Dolphins. Incognito was one of a group of players who harassed teammate Jonathan Martin with racial slurs and sexual remarks made about his mother and sister, according to report from the NFL. The Dolphins suspended Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team and he did not play during the 2014 season.
