OAKLAND – The Raiders are playing on Sunday Night Football against the Denver Broncos, and local fans hoping to keep the team in Oakland are trying to capitalize on this platform to spread their message.
Raiders fan groups "Stay in Oakland," "Save Oakland Sports" and the "Oakland Raiders Booster Club" organized the effort to deter the Raiders from moving to Las Vegas, which included a plane flying above Oakland Coliseum before Sunday’s game displaying a sign that read, “Vegas, If You Build It, We Won’t Come.”
The booster clubs also distributed 10,000 signs with the same slogan on one side, and “Stay in Oakland: Commitment to the East Bay” on the other.
The Raiders are pressing for a move to Las Vegas, with the state of Nevada approving $750 million in public funds to stadium construction for a building that has a workable financing plan and could have the Raiders playing in Sin City by 2020.
There is a strong grassroots effort to keep the Raiders from leaving Oakland a second time, though the Raiders have their sights set on Vegas.
Rashaan Melvin said his goodbyes to the Raiders after the Lions announced a deal that would bring the cornerback to the team.
But Melvin's farewell to the Silver and Black was a bit of a sad one. Melvin said he felt as though he cheated the fans:
This, of course, appeared to be more of him not feeling as though he played to his potential. Playing for the Raiders had been a dream of his.
Melvin only started in seven games last season which could be partly why he's feeling the way he's feeling.
"To all my guys in the locker room, I appreciate you guys for making the year special through everything."
Antonio Brown is now a member of the Raiders -- which means he is not going to play for the Bills despite some strange rumors he would be Buffalo-bound.
So, naturally, Brown made sure to put a reaction on Instagram to double-down on this:
This is in addition to him saying it was "Fake news" at the beginning of the month:
And anything sports-related and bring Drake into the mix is very much appreciated.
It appears Brown is more than happy with his decision to sport silver and black.
