PITTSBURGH –- Raiders linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong was fined for a unnecessary roughness during Sunday’s 34-20 victory over the New York Jets.

The NFL levied a $17,363 fine for a hit on Jets quarterback Geno Smith late in the fourth quarter of that game. Smith was removed from the game due to injury, but returned a few plays later.

Armstrong took a step or two extra after Smith released the ball, and drove his shoulder and helmet into Smith’s chest.

Armstrong was not penalized at the time. He played seven snaps on defense in that game, and has been phases out largely due to undisciplined technique on the field and improved results when using other players.
