Raiders punter Cole returns hoping to build on rookie year


A.J. Cole surprised some when he beat out incumbent Raiders punter Johnny Townsend for the job during training camp last fall.

The undrafted rookie proved a solid addition, finishing among the NFL's top half in gross punt average and kicks downed inside the 20.

Along with kicker Daniel Carlson, Cole could prove vital to helping the Raiders win close games, as field position can be the difference in the NFL.

Coming off a 7-9 season, the Raiders need all the help they can get from special teams.
