Raiders rookie Josh Jacobs reveals he underwent surgery for infection

Josh Jacobs has been playing through pain. The star rookie running back never wants to come off the field, but a shoulder ailment has forced him to miss two of the Raiders' last three games.

Apparently, he has been dealing with more than just a shoulder issue.

The 21-year-old's Christmas took an unfortunate turn this year. Jacobs posted videos to his Instagram account indicating he underwent surgery on his left leg.

Jacobs later posted that his surgery was for an infection, not an NFL-related injury. The Raiders released a statement saying that Jacobs was treated for a superficial skin infection.

Later Thursday afternoon, Raiders coach Jon Gruden addressed Jacobs' status heading into Sunday's game vs. the Broncos.

"I don't study social media so I wasn't aware of any of his social posts," Gruden told reporters (h/t ESPN). "But what I do know is he has a skin infection and that will have nothing to do with his playing status. His shoulder is the issue and we're anxious to see how he is tomorrow."

The Raiders need a whole lot of things to go right to beat the odds and make the playoffs, but it all starts with beating Denver. Jacobs scored two touchdowns against the Broncos in his NFL debut and hasn't stopped since.

While he has missed two games to his shoulder ailment, Jacobs still has rushed for 1,150 yards this season and seven touchdowns. He was named a Pro Bowl alternate and has been the most successful rookie running back in Raiders history.

Losing Jacobs would be a big blow to the Silver and Black, but this won't be their first time playing without him.
