Raiders rule rookie Ruggs out for Week 3 vs. Patriots

As the Raiders try and start 3-0 for the first time since 2002, they’ll have to do it without one of the team’s top wideouts.

Rookie Henry Ruggs, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, will miss the Raiders’ Week 3 contest in New England against the Patriots.

Ruggs, who is battling knee and hamstring issues, played in each of Las Vegas’ first two games. The Alabama product has caught four of his eight targets for 59 yards in his rookie season, also gaining 11 yards rushing on two attempts.

Top-of-the-line speed made Ruggs one of the most sought-after prospects in the 2020 class. Opponents already have been forced to compensate for that, leaving teammates like Darren Waller and fellow rookie Bryan Edwards with more chances for opportunities.

The Raiders are off to a strong start in the Las Vegas era, including winning the first game at Allegiant Stadium on "Monday Night Football" against the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
