While Martin Jones might be splitting time in goal to start the season with Devan Dubnyk, he once again will be sporting some pretty awesome masks in the process.
The Sharks Twitter account posted Jones’ two new masks by Eye Candy Air, a company that produces custom airbrushing, and they look awesome.
It appears Jones has both a modern and old school look for both of the masks.
Last year, Jones sported a cyborg, shark design which typically goes against his modest style on the masks. It also creeped me out -- I’m not going to lie.
Either way, designs on the goalie masks are a great way for the players to express themselves.
It also could be a personal thing.
Last September, Tampa Bay Lightening’s Mathieu Joseph used the powerful message of Black Lives Matter to express the recent events across the nation. A quote of “lightning makes no sound until it strikes,” was designed on the mask with “Black Lives Matter” on the chin cover.
While Santa Clara County’s ban on contact sports remains intact, the Sharks have begun their training camp at the Ice Den in Scottsdale, Ariz. It’s still unclear when, and if, the team will be back playing at SAP Center in San Jose.
Jones does see benefits to sharing some ice time with Dubnyk, given the compacted schedule early in the season with a lot of games in a short amount of time.
“It’s good to have two goalies who can win you games,” Jones said on Monday. “We’re going to be pushing each other and that can only help us.”
