PITTSBURGH – Sharks head coach Pete DeBoer will miss Saturday’s game in Pittsburgh due to a personal matter, general manager Doug Wilson announced in a statement.
Assistant coaches Bob Boughner, Steve Spott and Johan Hedberg will handle the coaching duties for the Sharks in their game against the Penguins, as the club tries for its fifth straight win.
Spott handled the standard media availability following the team’s morning skate at Consol Energy Center.
“I’ll continue to work with the forwards and [Boughner] will work with the defensemen still. Johan Hedberg will come down from the press box and be on a headset with Dan Darrow, our video coach,” Spott said. “Nothing will change with regards to our responsibilities.”
DeBoer’s status for the Sharks game in Columbus on Sunday is uncertain, as the Sharks wrap up their season-long six-game road trip.
DeBoer is in his first season as Sharks head coach. He also missed the Sharks’ optional skate on Wednesday in Philadelphia.
