For the second straight season, Joe Pavelski is headed to the Western Conference finals. Only this time, it's not with the Sharks.
San Jose's former captain and the Dallas Stars advanced to the conference finals with a 5-4 overtime win over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 7 of their second round playoff series on Friday. Pavelski helped get the scoring started with the primary assist on the first goal of the game.
After signing with Dallas as a free agent this past offseason, Pavelski has done with the Stars what he so often did with the Sharks: step his game up in the playoffs. After totaling just 31 points across 67 regular season games, Pavelski has totaled eight goals and four assists through 16 postseason games.
The sight of Pavelski wearing something other than teal will always look weird, but Sharks fans surely can be happy for him, now halfway to what would be his first Stanley Cup.
The Stars prevailed in the first of two Western Conference Game 7s slated for Friday, and many Sharks fans will have a rooting interest in the latter one, too.
After winning three of the first four games of their series, the Vegas Golden Knights face a winner-take-all Game 7. Sound familiar?
It should. It's only the second Game 7 in Vegas franchise history, and Sharks fans are unlikely to ever forget the first one.
Clearly, the Golden Knights haven't.
