Pavelski joins exclusive company with goal in Cup Final

Joe Pavelski is on the board in the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, but it wasn't enough to help the Dallas Stars on Monday night.

The former Sharks captain scored his first goal of the series against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the second period of Game 2 and cut the Stars' deficit to 3-1.

Unfortunately for Pavelski and the Stars, the Lightning held on for a 3-2 win to even the series at one game apiece.

Pavelski's goal Monday brought him closer to becoming the greatest U.S.-born goal scorer in NHL playoff history as he tied Mike Modano with 58 career postseason goals.

In 23 playoff games this year, Pavelski now has 10 goals and five assists.

The last time Pavelski was in the Stanley Cup Final, he tallied one goal, but didn't register an assist as the Sharks fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games in 2016.

Barclay Goodrow, the other notable former Sharks player in the series, didn't register a point in the Lightning's Game 2 win.

The Stars and Lightning will meet in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday. Puck drop is 5 p.m. PT on NBCSN.
