It looks like the reunion isn't happening after all.

Patrick Marleau's agent, Pat Brisson, told Sportnet's Elliotte Friedman that his client does not fit with the Sharks right now. Marleau will pursue other playing opportunities in the NHL.

Marleau, who turns 40 on Sept. 15, spent the first 19 years of his NHL career in San Jose. He played the last two years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes this offseason.

The former Sharks star moved back to California this offseason and made his wish to return to San Jose known. Shortly after being traded to the Hurricanes, Marleau was bought out, opening more speculation he could wear teal again this coming season.

Clearly, the Sharks had other plans.

Marleau was a three-time All-Star with San Jose, but scored just 37 points last year, his lowest total in a full season since he was a rookie. Everyone loves a good reunion story, but this one simply didn't make much sense
