Sharks defenseman Vlasic out with lower body injury

SAN JOSE -– Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic will miss Saturday’s game against the Lightning with a lower body injury, head coach Pete DeBoer revealed after a team meeting at SAP Center.

He did not elaborate when asked if Vlasic’s injury was serious.

"I don't know. That's all I'm going to say for now," DeBoer said.

Mirco Mueller was recalled from the Barracuda on Saturday morning to take Vlasic’s spot on the roster, but the defense pairs headed into the game with Tampa Bay are unclear. Rookie Dylan DeMelo also remains with the team after he was recalled on Friday morning.

In 25 games, Vlasic has 11 points (3g, 8a) and a +6 rating while averaging 23:07 of ice time. He played just 17:23 on Friday night in Anaheim, a season-low, missing the last nine minutes of a 1-0 loss.

The Sharks have a 1-4 record when missing a top four defenseman. They dropped all three games in October when Paul Martin was out with a lower body injury, and were 1-1 last week when Justin Braun missed two games with an infection in his left elbow, losing to the Blackhawks but beating the Flames.
