Sharks winger Evander Kane released a statement Sunday morning denying an allegation that he has bet on NHL games during his career.
"Unfortunately I would like to address the completely FALSE accusations that my estranged and soon to be ex wife has made against me," Kane's statement read. "Even against the advice of my legal team I feel strongly that the public and fans hear this from me. I have NEVER gambled/bet on hockey, NEVER gambled/bet on a Sharks game, NEVER gambled/bet on any of my games and NEVER thrown a hockey game."

The statement came one day after the NHL announced it planned to investigate Evander Kane over an allegation made by an unverified Instagram account attributed to Kane's wife, Anna.
Anna Kane also responded Sunday to Evander Kane's statement with several accusations regarding the Sharks winger.
In November 2019, The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that The Cosmopolitan was suing Kane for $500,000 in unpaid gambling markers. Court documents from April 2020 show that The Cosmopolitan chose to drop the lawsuit, with no reason specified.
In January, The Athletic's Dan Kaplan reported Kane had filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and claimed close to $27 million in debt, including $1.5 million in gambling losses from the preceding year. Kaplan reported that Kane was facing six active "lawsuits, court actions and administrative proceedings with lendors," and confirmed reporting by San Jose Hockey Now's Sheng Peng that Centennial Bank had filed a lawsuit in a Florida federal court seeking $8.3 million from Kane and the Sharks.
