The NHL had not issued any kind of player discipline for slew footing since the 2015-16 season prior to Friday. Sharks forward Kevin Labanc has broken that streak, as he will miss the Sharks' game against the Washington Capitals after being issued a one-game suspension for slew footing St. Louis Blues center Tyler Bozak.

You can see the video featuring the full breakdown of Labanc's violation from NHL Player Safety.

Labanc was given a two-minute tripping penalty after the play happened in the Sharks' 4-1 loss on Thursday.
