Sharks' Gabriel again chirps, then fights opposing enforcer

In his return to the Sharks' lineup Monday, Kurtis Gabriel once again chirped with an opposing enforcer in pregame warmups before fighting him in the game.

Gabriel cross-checked Los Angeles Kings defenseman Kurtis MacDermid prior to Monday's contest at SAP Center, and the former OHL teammates dropped the gloves with 10:52 remaining in the first period.

Monday was Gabriel's 10th game with the Sharks, and he now has four fighting majors this season. San Jose scratched Gabriel for Saturday's 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

The 27-year-old returned to the Sharks' locker room after the fight. Gabriel didn't skate another shift in the first period, returning to the ice 3:55 into the second period.

Gabriel previously fought Vegas Golden Knights forward Ryan Reaves and St. Louis Blues winger Kyle Clifford. In both cases, Gabriel jawed with his opponent prior to the game.

Gabriel and MacDermid were teammates on the Owen Sound Attack for parts of three seasons from 2011-12 through 2013-14.
