Sharks open 2016-17 season with victory over Kings
Sharks begin quest for Lord Stanley
Following the most successful campaign in franchise history, the San Jose Sharks began the defense of their Western Conference crown against the rival Los Angeles Kings at SAP Center.
Kings strike first
Forward Tyler Toffoli fires one top shelf over Martin Jones' left shoulder to put the Kings on the board in the first period.
Logan Couture ripped one past Jonathan Quick that caromed off the posts to even the game at 1-all in the first period.
That didn't take long
Shortly after Logan Couture's equalizer, goaltender Jonathan Quick left the net and a brawl between the Sharks and Kings ensued in the Los Angeles zone.
Kings netminder Jonathan Quick did not appear for the second period of the opener. He was diagnosed with a lower body injury, and was "not expected to return," according to the Los Angeles Kings PR.
Sharks take the season opener
During a fast-paced sequence in the third period, Brent Burns slapped a rebound past backup goaltender Jeff Zatkoff, which was a game-winning goal for San Jose.
