Sharks defenseman Radim Simek was fined $5,000 Sunday, which is the maximum allowed under the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, for spearing Anaheim Ducks center Adam Henrique on Saturday in San Jose's 2-1 loss.

Here's video of the play that took a chunk out of Simek's wallet.

The play then led to a tussle between the two that resulted in a two-minute roughing penalty for both players at the 6:27 mark in the second period.

Simek, 28, is in his third season with the Sharks. He has played eight games this year and has one assist but no goals.

The Sharks are 4-5-1 this season, which has them second-to-last in the stacked West Division. They play the Los Angeles Kings, the only team behind them in the West, on Tuesday at Staples Center.
