Sharks defenseman Radim Simek was fined $5,000 Sunday, which is the maximum allowed under the NHL's Collective Bargaining Agreement, for spearing Anaheim Ducks center Adam Henrique on Saturday in San Jose's 2-1 loss.

The play then led to a tussle between the two that resulted in a two-minute roughing penalty for both players at the 6:27 mark in the second period.

Simek, 28, is in his third season with the Sharks. He has played eight games this year and has one assist but no goals.
