The Sharks' youth movement is off to a good start.
One of three San Jose players making his NHL debut at SAP Center on Saturday night in the season opener against the visiting Winnipeg Jets, Jasper Weatherby tied the score at 2-2 in the second period with the first goal of his career.
Weatherby's first NHL goal came on the power-play, firing a wicked wrist shot over the shoulder of Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck. Veterans Erik Karlsson and Kevin LaBanc got the assists, with all three players involved tallying their first point of the young season.
Weatherby was a standout in the Sharks' development camp in August and carried that momentum through training camp and the preseason, earning a spot as one of five rookies on San Jose's opening night roster. The University of North Dakota product surely will fondly remember his NHL debut for more than one reason.
