SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks are coming off their fifth straight victory and their 1,000th franchise win. Now they return home to go for six in a row as they host Erik Karlsson’s former team, the Ottawa Senators.
When these teams met up on Dec. 1, the Sens handed the Sharks a 6-2 loss – their fourth in a row. San Jose has since gone 14-3-2 and has taken over second place in the Pacific Division.
The Sharks put up a hard fight against the Golden Knights in Las Vegas on Thursday evening. After trailing 2-1 almost halfway through the third period, San Jose notched two goals in less than a minute to solidify the 3-2 victory. Martin Jones made 36 stops en route to the Sharks tallying their first regular season win at T-Mobile Arena.
The Senators enter Saturday’s contest coming off a 4-1 win over the Kings down in Los Angeles. Former Sharks Chris Tierney scored two goals in that game, with fellow ex-Shark Mikkel Boedker setting up his first goal. Former Sharks’ prospect Rudolfs Balcers tallied the secondary assist on that goal.
The Sharks will still be without injured defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic for Saturday’s contest with the Senators. Defenseman Justin Braun took line rushes with the team for the first time since sustaining a lower body injury and is considered a game-time decision, per Sharks coach Peter DeBoer.
San Jose is 15-14-4-2 through 35 franchise matchups with Ottawa.
