Timo misses Sharks-Vegas rematch with lower-body injury

The Sharks will be without one of their best offensive players as they take on the Vegas Golden Knights for the second night in a row Saturday.

Shortly before the puck was dropped between the two bitter rivals, Timo Meier was ruled out by the Sharks with a lower-body injury and deemed day-to-day.

It's not clear what the injury is, but the Sharks' 5-4 overtime loss to the Golden Knights on Friday night was about as physical of a contest as you can imagine.

Meier, at one point in the game, took a stick to the face. But whatever the lower-body injury is, he was able to play in the overtime period.

Meier is third on the Sharks with 15 points (four goals, 11 assists), so his presence will be missed Saturday night. The Sharks are also still without Tomas Hertl, who remains in the league's COVID-19 protocols.

Noah Gregor will take Meier's spot on the third line against Vegas.

The Sharks (8-10-3) have lost two games in a row, so sending the Golden Knights out of San Jose with a loss would be huge. Now they'll have to do it without one of their best players.
