Vegas pokes fun at suspended Sharks star Evander Kane ahead of opener

Well, we knew this was coming.

The Sharks and Golden Knights renewed their rivalry in the NHL season opener Wednesday night, but one of the key characters who has played a major role in building that up wasn't in Vegas to participate.

That's because San Jose winger Evander Kane is suspended for the first three games of the season for abuse of an official in the preseason finale, also in Vegas. Kane -- who has been a frequent target of the Golden Knight's provocations -- was one yet again Wednesday despite not actually playing in the game.

Prior to puck drop, the T-Mobile Arena videoboard operator had a little fun at Kane's expense.

At one point this summer, Vegas' Ryan Reaves declared himself Kane's "worst nightmare" while officiating a wedding. Kane, as you'd expect, didn't shy away from responding.

Vegas might have gotten the first laugh of the new season, but as all involved will recall, San Jose got the last one.

(Four goals on one power play. Cough. Cough.)

You can be sure Kane will remind the Golden Knights of that fact all season long.
