Watch Brent Burns end Sharks' losing streak with OT goal vs. Golden Knights

Nearly three weeks after their last victory, the Sharks are back in the win column.

San Jose snapped a seven-game losing streak Saturday night, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in overtime. Defenseman Brent Burns gave the Sharks the lead for good just 22 seconds into the extra period, blasting a one-timer past Golden Knights goaltender Malcolm Subban.

Burns scored on the power play, one of the few places the Sharks have clicked lately. In the last four games, San Jose has scored on five of its last 17 power-play opportunities (29.4 percent). The Sharks scored on just three of their first 23 opportunities (13 percent) in the first 10 games in March.

They're surely breathing a much bigger sigh of relief after getting back in the win column, however, as San Jose's victory clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Sharks most likely will match up with the same team they beat by a thin margin Saturday at SAP Center.

Vegas now has lost each of its last five games after winning 10 of its previous 11, but the second-year franchise has given San Jose trouble all season long. Last change could prove pivotal, especially as the Golden Knights' line of Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith continues to give the Sharks problems.

But those concerns won't materialize until April 10 or April 11 when the playoffs begin. In the meantime, the Sharks will host the Pacific Division-leading Calgary Flames on Sunday, and they'll still have three games remaining after that.

For now, though, they can rest easy with a season-long losing streak in the rearview mirror.
