Mikel Arteta hopes the third time -- and a new year -- is the charm.

The new Arsenal manager is winless in two matches at the helm of the North London club, and the Gunners enter Sunday's match in 12th place in the Premier League table. Arsenal are four points clear of relegation, closer to 18th place than a spot in Europe.

The turn of the calendar provides a chance for a fresh start, and Arsenal really need it.

Arsenal host Manchester United on Wednesday, and the Red Devils can move two points back of fourth place -- the final UEFA Champions League spot -- with a win over their longtime rivals. United beat Norwich City and Newcastle United earlier in the festive period, but Wednesday's match kicks off a tough week-long stretch.

Man United travel to Wolverhampton for an FA Cup match on the weekend followed by the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against cross-town rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford.
