Watch VAR award penalty, Manchester United lead over Manchester City

Marcus Rashford took advantage of a rare occurrence Saturday.

VAR overturned referee Anthony Taylor's initial decision to not penalize Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva's foul on the Manchester United forward, and Rashford scored on the ensuing penalty to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead over their intracity rivals Saturday at City of Manchester Stadium.

Rashford nearly built upon his 23rd-minute penalty twice in the ensuing moments, missing wide on a counter-attack and hitting the crossbar soon after.

But six minutes after Rashford's goal, Anthony Martial doubled United's advantage.

City needed to win Saturday to keep their increasingly slim English Premier League title hopes alive.

That much, like VAR's decision to award United a penalty Saturday, was clear and obvious: The Cityzens dropped 14 points back of first-place Liverpool thanks to Saturday's loss.
