David Lee ‘absolutely' still roots for Warriors

David Lee played five seasons for the Warriors, and was a part of last year's championship squad.

Despite the fact Golden State traded him to Boston last July, Lee continues to root for his former squad.

"I cheer for them. I absolutely cheer for them, unless we're playing against them," Lee told Adi Joseph of the Sporting News on Monday night. "They deserve the things that are happening for them because, not only are they a great team, but a great group of guys.

"It's very well documented how close all of us are, and it was great to see them and go to the White House. I get to get my ring on the 25th of March and go back and see those guys. So that will be a good night.

"Right now, I'm focusing my efforts on helping Dallas win, but I'm always keeping an eye on those guys and cheering them when we're not playing."

The Celtics waived Lee on Feb. 19, and he signed with the Mavericks three days later.

Over 10 games for Dallas, the two-time All-Star is averaging 10.7 points and 8.1 rebounds over 19.5 minutes per contest.

The Warriors travel to Texas to take on Lee's squad this Friday night, and there's a chance the teams square off in the first round of the playoffs.

"Well, we're looking pretty far ahead there," Lee told Joseph. "But we'll see."

Would facing the Warriors in the postseason provide any additional motivation?

"Well, not so much a motivating factor," Lee answered. "The playoffs are playoffs. That's going to be fun no matter who we play. But they're really rolling right now, so we'll see what happens."
