10 players Warriors fans should root for, against in NBA restart
Root for: Seth Curry, Dallas Mavericks
At least there's one Curry in the playoffs.
During the 2015 NBA playoffs, Steph Curry's younger brother was in the stands for a lot of the Warriors games. So it's only right that Dub Nation return the favor and root for Seth this time around.
Root against: Rudy Gobert, Utah Jazz
Warriors fans don't have a natural hatred for Gobert. But whenever fans are allowed back into NBA arenas, he's going to face some heat for being so cavalier about the coronavirus. It's because of Gobert's positive test that the NBA season was paused back in March.
Root against: Kawhi Leonard, Los Angeles Clippers
How can anyone hate a robot? It's easy when that robot ended the Warriors' chance at a three-peat last year.
Watching Kawhi hoist the Larry O'Brien trophy again would be hard for Warriors fans to watch.
Root for: Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers
If Dub Nation can't root for the team that occupied Oakland for 47 years, at least they can pull for Oakland's native son, Dame Lillard.
Last year, the Warriors battled Lillard in the Western Conference finals. This year, Warriors fans safely can root for Lillard and the Blazers to make the playoffs and go on a deep run.
Root against: Russell Westbrook, Houston Rockets
Russ has a history of throwing shade at Steph Curry, and he famously beefed with Kevin Durant after the former MVP bolted the Thunder for the Warriors.
Dub Nation enjoys watching Westbrook walk off the court in defeat.
Root against: James Harden, Houston Rockets
The Warriors took great joy in ending Harden's season four times during their five-year NBA Finals run.
One of the highlights of the Warriors' dominance was their ability to keep Harden and the Rockets from winning an NBA title.
Harden coming up small on the big stage would be a welcome sight for Warriors fans.
Root against: Giannis Antetokounmpo, Milwaukee Bucks
Dub Nation doesn't hate Giannis. In fact, they are infatuated with him and hope he comes to San Francisco next summer.
But the common theory is that if Giannis wins an NBA title in Milwaukee, he's more inclined to stay. If he loses in the playoffs and feels he can't win with the Bucks, he's more likely to leave.
So if Warriors fans want to keep hope alive that Giannis will come to the Bay Area, they need Milwaukee to lose.
Root for: Andre Iguodala, Miami Heat
Iguodala is a legend in the Bay Area. If not for salary cap constraints, he might still be on the Warriors.
If Dub Nation is looking for an Eastern Conference team to root for, Miami is a good choice. In addition to Iguodala, the Heat have shooters that might remind Warriors fans of the Splash Brothers.
Root against: Chris Paul, Oklahoma City Thunder
CP3 might be the most hated opponent of Warriors fans. Paul has a tendency to complain to refs and that doesn't sit well with fans of any team, but especially Dub Nation.
There's no better visual than watching Paul walk off the court in defeat at the hands of the Warriors the last two years.
Warriors fan want to watch CP3 lose badly.
Root for: LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers
OK, here's the tricky one. Warriors fans cheered against LeBron in four straight NBA Finals, and they booed even louder when he joined the Lakers.
Most members of Dub Nation don't want to see LeBron or the Lakers win the 2020 NBA Title.
But I'll tell you why, for one time only, I will root for LeBron: Kobe Bryant.
Imagine the feeling if LeBron is able to win a title for the Lakers to honor Kobe. The entire sports world ached when Kobe tragically died in a helicopter crash in January. Based on how 2020 has gone so far, we could all use a reason to cry tears of joy. If LeBron wins this year and dedicates the title to Kobe, we will all lose it.
Root for: Alec Burks/Glenn Robinson III, Philadelphia 76ers -- The Sixers have an uphill battle in the East, but Burks and Robinson III were good Warriors, so Dub Nation will cheer them on.
Root against: Patrick Beverley, Los Angeles Clippers -- Warriors fans hate this pest. He gets under everyone's skin. He won't shut up if he wins a title this year.
Root for: Harrison Barnes/Kent Bazemore, Sacramento Kings -- If the Kings overcome the long odds and make the playoffs, Dub Nation will have a chance to root for two former Warriors.
Root against: Aron Baynes, Phoenix Suns -- Warriors fans won't forgive Baynes for breaking Steph Curry's left hand in the fourth game of the season. Dub Nation probably hopes Phoenix goes 0-8 in Orlando.
