Wiggins misses Warriors scrimmage: ‘Under the weather'

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Warriors on Saturday held their first full scrimmage at Chase Center, and they did it without starting small forward Andrew Wiggins.

“Andrew was not here today,” coach Steve Kerr said. “He’s under the weather.”

Kerr provided no specifics, nor is he obligated to do so.

Though Kerr said training-camp invite Jordan Bell also did not participate – “a personal excuse” – Wiggins’ absence might be significant, as he previously expressed no intention to take the COVID-19 vaccine despite the fact that all Warriors employees must be fully vaccinated by Oct. 13 to continue to gain entrance into the building.

If Wiggins eventually opts to take the Johnson & Johnson one-shot vaccine, he would be considered fully vaccinated two weeks after the injection.

If he takes either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, both of which require two shots, it would require a five-week process. There are three weeks between the first and second shots, with full vaccination achieved two weeks after the second shot.

If Wiggins was not feeling well Saturday for unrelated reasons, it’s conceivable he could return on Sunday and accompany the Warriors on their afternoon flight to Portland in advance of the preseason game against the Trail Blazers on Monday.
