AD hopes Lakers can ‘spoil' Warriors' ring night celebration

The Warriors are set to host their fourth NBA championship ring night in eight seasons Tuesday ahead of their 2022-23 season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center.

Lakers star Anthony Davis hopes that's where the fun stops for the Warriors.

"Our first two games are against title contenders," Davis told reporters Monday, noting that the Lakers open with games against the Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers. "So it's always good to spoil the ring nights. The mindset is going up and starting the season with a couple [wins.]"

The Warriors begin their title defense against a Lakers team simply trying to right the ship after missing the playoffs entirely last season with a 33-49 record.

Davis himself wants to show that he can stay healthy for a full season after playing in just about half of the Lakers' games the last two years (36 of 72 in 2020-21 and 40 of 82 last season).

Of the Warriors' three previous ring nights, only one was spoiled by their opponent -- 2017 when the Houston Rockets won 122-121.

In 2015, coming off the franchise's first NBA title in 40 years, the Warriors beat the New Orleans Pelicans 111-95. That would be the first of 24 straight wins to open the season en route to an NBA-record 73-win season.

Kevin Durant and the Warriors beat his former team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, in 2018 to begin that season.

The Warriors are planning a big party Tuesday night. While they unveiled the last three banners at Oracle Arena in Oakland, this will be the first time they get to raise one at Chase Center.
