Myers tells funny Father's Day story about Lacob's will to win

Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers for years has said how fortunate he is to work for an owner in Joe Lacob who wants to win more than anything.

Myers has told numerous stories and shared many examples of just how hungry Lacob is to capture championships.

And the two-time NBA Executive of the Year this week provided another anecdote during an appearance on The Athletic NBA Show podcast.

"I know there's a perception of Joe. What I love about Joe and [what] I admire about him is his competitiveness and his relentlessness," Myers told Marcus Thompson and David Aldridge. "It was Father's Day and he sends me a text and he's like, 'You watching the [LA] Clippers game?' Giving some advice on the game.

"And I look at my text and I'm like, 'It's Father's Day! We're out of the playoffs [laughter]!' And then I take a step back and I go, 'This dude. He's relentless. That's why he's achieved what he's achieved and I credit him.' It's that prodding and pushing.

"And I embrace that. There's more people that want to just quit and give up. I admire that quality of him. And for our fans -- that's exactly what you want in an owner. It's not just the money. It's the desire and the will to win that is there.

"And not because of public pressure, but because they want it. They personally want to make it happen."

To be clear, Myers shared the details of the Father's Day text while laughing and with a playful disposition. He even alluded to the fact he would tell Lacob he shared this particular story.

As for the Warriors aiming to be championship contenders again -- Myers, Lacob and the rest of the front office have their work cut out for them this offseason.

And it will be fascinating to see what choices they make when it comes to improving the roster.

"There's infinite possibilities," Myers said. "You could trade all your young guys for an older guy, you could do half of that, you could do none of that. It's all there.

"The challenge is how you focus and make the right decision within all these possibilities."
