Kerr: Steph ‘breathtaking' during Warriors' third-quarter run

For the better part of two days, questions swirled about possibly ramping up Steph Curry's workload and playing time the rest of these NBA Finals.

Any possible increase in his minutes in Game 2 on Sunday night went out the window after Curry scored 14 points in a monster third quarter, helping the Warriors pull away with a 107-88 win at Chase Center.

Curry, who finished with a game-high 29 points, went 4-of-9 from the field and 3-of-6 from 3-point range in the quarter. He also had two rebounds, one steal and was a plus-21 in those 12 minutes of action.

The Warriors, as they routinely do, won the third quarter handily, steamrolling the Celtics 35-14 in the period, led by Curry's heroics. Golden State took a 23-point lead into the fourth quarter.

"Steph was breathtaking in that quarter, not just the shot-making but the defensive effort," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game. "He just doesn't get enough credit for his level of conditioning and physicality and defense. People go at him to try to wear him down because they know how important he is to us offensively.

"It's pretty dramatic, the difference in Steph's strength and physicality and his body now from eight years ago when I first got here. Guy's amazing. He keeps working on his game, his strength, his conditioning year after year. It's a pleasure to watch him play every night."

After playing 38 minutes in Game 1, Curry sat the entire fourth quarter of Game 2, needing to only play just over 32 minutes of action in the 19-point win.

Curry now is averaging 31.5 points in the 2022 NBA Finals, which shifts to Boston with the series tied one-game-apiece.
