Charles Barkley, Warriors' Draymond Green address their longtime beef

The war of words between NBA on TNT analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley and Draymond Green goes back a long way.

Just in the past few months, we've seen Barkley describe Green as the "least famous person in the boy band" with the Warriors and Draymond claiming the 11-time All-NBA player is "jealous" of him.

The two oddly were paired up for NBA on TNT's new show "The Arena" as hosts, alongside former NBA star Dwyane Wade and analyst Cari Champion. Naturally, the two were pressed early on about the evolution of their longstanding feud.

"I've said many times, I like Draymond," Barkley said Monday night during the show's debut. "He does annoy me at times on the court, because you've gotta ask him if he's ever committed a foul."

Green then was given a chance to respond, and explained his side of one of the NBA's more notorious beefs.

"He's a Black man, I respect him," Green told Champion. "The issue that I've had is, a lot of people watch the game of basketball, and don't know what they're looking at. So when they look at a Chuck or they look at different guys who has these platforms, they take what you're saying and they listen to that and they run with that. So where as for me, it hasn't necessarily affected my pockets, but there are a lot of guys in this league that people run with what guys say on these platforms, and it affects guys' pockets, and that's the issue that I've had.

"It's similar to like Javale McGee when he came out with Shaq, (Shaquille O'Neal) and said 'this is altering my career,' and I think that's what we have to understand. When I said on 'All the Smoke,' as a Black man, you gotta support the next Black man, you can't keep putting the next Black man down. I understand that there's a job to do, but I also know I've done too many great things in this league and won a lot to hear some of the stuff he be saying about me."

Although the feud appeared to be patched up during Monday night's broadcast, Green told the USA Today's Mark Medina earlier Monday that the two aren't exactly best friends all of a sudden.

“He’s not a friend of mine,” Draymond said. “He’s not someone whose opinion matters to me. So there is not a need to hash anything out.

“This isn’t about me vs. Chuck. This is about continuing to bring awareness to the issues that we face as Black Americans. That’s what it’s about for me. Nonetheless, what moment transpires out of us being on the same set, I don’t know.

"But I think it will be good TV. That’s what matters at the end of the day. We'll all come together and put out a good product.”

Barkley doesn't miss many opportunities to take shots at Draymond during broadcasts of "NBA on TNT." Green joined the "All the Smoke" podcast in March, and made similar comments to what he said on Monday night to Barkley's face.

"I gotta lot of respect for Charles Barkley the basketball player," he told former Warriors Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. "He never won s--t. Charles Barkley has kind of had this beef with me since I started coming up in this league. It's always him throwing a shot, throwing a shot, throwing a shot.

"And for years, I didn't respond ... honestly -- it's jealousy. It's jealousy that that somebody the same size as him -- or smaller -- could come in the league and have the success I've had, make the money I've made, win the championships I've won. These are all things that Charles Barkley wasn't able to do."

Barkley hit back at the jealousy rhetoric by hitting the same analogy he used for Draymond before.

“I get annoyed when these guys who are born into money think that they’re successful,” Barkley said on the “Coffee With Cal” show. “He’s like the worst member of the boy band who doesn’t realize he’s standing next to Timberlake. When the girls are throwing panties at his head, he’s going to get hit by some drive-by panties, but they’re really throwing panties at Justin Timberlake.

“Draymond’s a good little player, but without Kevin Durant, Klay and Steph, he’s just a good little player.”

The two likely are making nice for the cameras, but it's good to see they at least can come together for a good cause.
