Chris Paul tried to get Andre Iguodala to join Rockets

Last Wednesday, the Rockets acquired Chris Paul in a trade with the Clippers.

On Saturday morning, Houston met with Andre Iguodala.

And according to Daryl Morey, Paul was a part of the contingent that tried to pry Iguodala away from Golden State.

"He's been in LA and came to our Iguodala meeting," the Rockets' GM revealed on The Bill Simmons Podcast. "That was a big reason we were excited to get the trade done early because we go into free agency with more tools -- trade exception, bi-annual, full mid-level and Chris Paul at meetings.

"So it was pretty good."

After Iguodala's meeting with the Rockets, he reportedly canceled some additional scheduled meetings.

Later that day, the 2015 NBA Finals MVP announced on Twitter that he will return to the Warriors.

"Obviously, that didn't work out," Morey said.

In 2015, the Rockets lost to the Warriors in the Western Conference Finals.

In 2016, the Rockets took a step back, finished with a regular season record at 41-41 and lost to the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.

In the summer of 2016, Kevin Durant signed with Golden State.

"We wanted to get to being a destination in free agency. That year (2016) really hurt us for the premiere free agent (Durant), who happens to be on the best team in the league now," Morey said. "I think if either this year or two years ago happen, we have a real shot at him coming to Houston.

"But our timing was off there."
