What MacMullan thinks makes Warriors ‘sneaky' team in West

Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green always will create the most headlines on the Warriors. They're bound to see their jerseys in the rafters at Chase Center, already having cemented their place as Warriors legends.

They're also the main reason the Warriors always will be seen as contenders if the three stars are healthy. But to longtime NBA writer Jackie MacMullan, it's a different aspect of Golden State's roster that makes the Warriors a "sneaky" team in the Western Conference this upcoming season.

"I think the difference for that three -- the Splash Brothers plus Draymond -- from the past is, look at that roster," MacMullan said on "The Bill Simmons Podcast." "There's some depth there. It's not something that Golden State's ever really had with those three.

"You may not love Otto Porter Jr., but you certainly like him enough to appreciate what he does. You can understand why he gives you depth at the NBA. I like the two draft picks. I think Andrew Wiggins needed a year to figure it out and I think he has."

MacMullan also noted she's a big fan of the Warriors signing stretch big man Nemanja Bjelica.

The health and development of young center James Wiseman, of course, will be a big factor as well.

"I haven't even mentioned James Wiseman, which is probably their wild card," MacMullan said.

She also believes Green has "taken a step back." But as we've said before, when he, Curry and Thompson all are healthy, all they've done is go to NBA Finals. Don't be against this trio.

MacMullan, in a sense, feels the same way.

"Maybe you put those three back together and some of Draymond's best attributes once again get accented," MacMullan said.

Now, at the same time, she isn't taking it too far.

If all goes well, the Warriors could be right back in the thick of title contention. They still have a lot of questions to answer, though.
