DiVincenzo compares championship cultures of Dubs, Bucks

Donte DiVincenzo is no stranger to the brightest stages in basketball.

A two-time collegiate champion at Villanova and the Most Outstanding Player of the 2018 Final Four, DiVincenzo won an NBA championship in 2021, his third season with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Now a member of the defending champion Warriors after signing a two-year deal in free agency, DiVincenzo will be on the court when the title banner is raised at Chase Center this fall.

He sees similarities in the two championship organizations.

"You can break it down into two different things," DiVincenzo told 95.7 The Game's Damon Bruce and Ray Ratto. "The team aspect of things, yes, you’re right, I don’t know what necessarily I’m getting into. But the culture and the environment from what I’ve been told and honestly, from a few days out in the Bay of what I’ve witnessed already in the offseason is, it’s very similar in terms that everybody from top to bottom takes care of everybody around.

"It’s the vibe in the locker room, the vibe in the kitchen, the vibe in everything in the facility – it’s very similar to when I was in Milwaukee."

In the Bay, the Warriors' culture begins and ends with Steph Curry. It's a similar vibe in Cream City, as well, with two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the way.

Just like Curry, Antetokounmpo is considered one of the league's best superstar teammates as an unselfish and fun-loving player who's a dominant force on the court. It's no surprise why the two players get along so well.

"I said this a while back when I first joined Milwaukee when I first got drafted," DiVincenzo said. "He’s a normal guy. Honestly, that’s what I can describe it is you think that he has this status and this stature that he’s going to be something other than a normal person. He likes to have fun; he likes to joke around. But when he gets in between the lines, he’s a dominant killer out there and that’s what everybody feeds off of."

Culture is a big reason why Curry and Draymond Green were able to convince DiVincenzo to sign with Golden State. DiVincenzo knows better than most that the right mix of talent, personalities and environment can lead to rings.

"I’m going in with a clean slate of wanting to play ball and just seeing what happens," DiVincenzo said.
