Myers hasn't heard any ‘doomsday scenario' for Draymond's injury

The Warriors just can't seem to get the whole band back together.

Just as Klay Thompson finally returned from a 941-day absence, Draymond Green went on the shelf with calf tightness due to a disc issue in his lower back. Green will be out for at least the next two weeks, but president of basketball operations Bob Myers sounds relatively optimistic that Green's injury won't be a long-term issue for Golden State.

“You know it is what it is," Myers told 95.7 The Game's "The Morning Roast" on Tuesday. "We thought it was a calf. It came on suddenly, and Rick Celebrini, who’s our director of medical and sports performance, there, that night, because that was Klay’s night and you all know what happened. He said the concern was the strength. So that’s when we thought maybe it’s just not a calf tightness thing because he was lacking some strength. And then you start doing an MRI and you see the disc.

"So, the good news is his strength is coming back. Yeah, you got to be careful with these things. That’s the bottom line. You don’t want to rush it and make it worse. So, I get concerned about all our guys. I’ll feel a lot better. I thought that night was going to be the first time in a couple of years or more that we had a full team, but it didn’t happen for us. We were right there and Lucy pulled the football. But we have to wait a little longer, and we still have to get [James] Wiseman back. And I want to see the team whole. I’m sure you guys do too.

“As far as how I’m viewing it, I’m looking at it like, each day it’s getting better, and that’s the good news," Myers continued. "It hasn’t plateaued. And you know, I haven’t heard any doomsday scenarios from anybody at this point. They’re always out there. But at this juncture, nobody is saying that. We just have to let the process go the way it’s going. Talk to some specialists that we’re doing the right thing, and the key is to not throw a guy back out there that has this issue and then makes it worse. So we’re just following the best doctors’ orders, and listening to his body and listening to Rick.”
RELATED: Kuminga can be exactly what Warriors need with Draymond out

After a blistering start to the season, the Warriors have cooled a bit of late. Golden State has lost six of its last 10 games and just finished a 1-3 road trip.

With Green out for a few weeks, the Warriors will look to get contributions from several key role players, including rookie Jonathan Kuminga, who had an excellent road trip that included a 25-point game against the Chicago Bulls.

The Warriors know that Green is essential to their hopes of winning a championship, so they will take it slow and make sure that he is 100 percent ready for the march back to the NBA Finals.
