Draymond, LeBron discuss potential Lakers White House visit

The Cleveland Cavaliers and LeBron James were the last NBA team to visit the White House after they defeated the Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals. But after President Donald Trump took office in 2016, the Warriors and Toronto Raptors did not make the customary trip to Washington to meet with the executive branch.

NBC News and multiple other outlets called the 2020 election for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Saturday morning. Warriors star Draymond Green tweeted at LeBron following the announcement, as James' Los Angeles Lakers could be the first NBA team to return to the traditional White House visit.

LeBron responded, saying he'll be bringing some refreshments with him.

The Warriors visited the White House to meet former President Barack Obama after the team's first title under coach Steve Kerr in 2015, but publicly sparred with President Trump and preemptively declined trips to Washington D.C. after the 2017 and 2018 titles.

Dan Pfeiffer, who was an advisor to Obama during his presidency, joined the "Runnin' Plays" podcast last month, and told NBC Sports Bay Area that there is precedent for a potential retroactive White House visit for the Warriors.

"If Joe Biden wins, maybe Steve Kerr should demand they get to do their '17 and '18 (visits). They are short two rings, two trips to the White House," Pfeiffer said.

Biden and Harris won't be formally sworn in until January 2021, but perhaps we'll see both the Lakers and Warriors visit the Oval Office next year.
