Draymond to miss start of Warriors camp for excused absence

Warriors

Draymond Green will miss the first few days of Warriors training camp with an excused absence, general manager Bob Myers said during Media Day on Monday. Myers said he hopes Green will join the team "in the next few days."

Green's offseason was brief, as he immediately picked up and began training for the Tokyo Olympics after the Warriors were eliminated from the play-in tournament. The Warriors forward played 17.8 minutes per game to help the U.S. win a gold medal for the fifth consecutive Olympics.

With James Wiseman not expected to participate in training camp outside of individual work, Green likely will be working extensively in small-ball lineups as the Warriors saw success with Draymond at the five in lineups a season ago.

Green missed most of Warriors training camp last season after dealing with a bout of COVID-19.

The Warriors' first preseason game will be Monday, Oct. 4 in Portland against the Trail Blazers.
