Draymond's NSFW thoughts on consecutive Christmas road games

Steve Kerr took a tongue-in-cheek approach when answering a pregame question about the Warriors playing on the road for a second straight Christmas.

Draymond Green took a much more direct route when asked about Kerr's comments shortly after the Warriors' 113-104 win over the Memphis Grizzlies at Chase Center on Thursday night.

"I think that's legit," Green told reporters, referring to Kerr's comments. "I have a 7-year-old, a 5-year-old and a 1-year-old. I want to spend some time at home with my kids too. We're not playing against the defending champion. If we're playing against the defending champion, you understand. But we're not. It's a bit frustrating to have to go on the road a second year in a row. So now I've missed my daughter's first Christmas and I'll miss her second one.

"It's kind of f---ed up. But it's the reality. That's what we're faced with. I have a job. You have to go do your job. But we're human beings too. I like I said, I missed her first one and I'll miss her second one. I can't explain that to her. So it sucks. We're not robots. We're not machines. We're actual human beings with actual feelings, with actual families. As I said before, we're playing against the defending champion, you got to go on the road, that's just what it is. If we were headed to Milwaukee, it is what it is, but we're not."

Green, Kerr and the Warriors played in Milwaukee on Christmas last year, and they will play in Phoenix on Saturday.

Prior to Thursday's game, Kerr told reporters he hopes the NBA institutes a rule stating that a team can't play on the road on Christmas in consecutive years. He joked that if the NBA schedules the Warriors on the road next Christmas, the team will protest by not showing up.

While the Suns (26-5) didn't win the title (they lost to Milwaukee), it makes sense that the NBA would give them a home game on the league's marquee day on the calendar. After all, they are the defending Western Conference champs and they own a half-game lead of the Warriors for the best overall record.

And the league had hoped the Warriors would be good, but they had no idea they would 26-6 through Dec. 23 when they released the Christmas Day schedule back in August.

And while the Warriors will be playing their second straight Christmas on the road, they played three straight at home in 2017, 2018 and 2019. So it all evens out.

If the Warriors continue playing well and make a deep run in the playoffs this season, it's very likely that Green and Kerr will get their wish to play at home next Christmas.
