Draymond Green should return in Warriors' preseason finale Friday vs. Lakers

STANFORD -- Draymond Green practiced for the first time in 12 days on Thursday and is expected to be available when the Warriors close out the preseason schedule Friday night.

“We had a brief practice; we didn’t do any contact,” coach Steve Kerr said at Maples Pavilion on the Stanford University campus. “But he’s doing better. He feels good. He should play tomorrow.”

Green has been sidelined since the Sept. 29 preseason opener, after which he experienced soreness in his left knee. Should he play Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers at SAP Center, his minutes will be limited.

“We won’t throw him out there for 30,” Kerr said. “It’ll be shorter bursts, for sure.”

Kerr has used a different starter in each of the three games Green missed. Camp invitee Marcus Derrickson played last Friday in Seattle, Kevon Looney was the choice Monday night in Oakland and Jordan Bell got the call Wednesday night against the Lakers in Las Vegas.

“It’ll be good to have Draymond back,” Kerr said. “With him out the last three games, it’s created some interesting combinations. Which has been good for us to get a longer look at guys. But some of the combinations have struggled a little bit, so Draymond has a way of tying things together out there.”
