Steph Curry in the summer of 2011 underwent surgery on his right ankle. After appearing in just 26 games the next season because of repeated ankle sprains, he had another procedure.

Then he missed the Warriors' final two preseason games ahead of the 2012-13 season after rolling that right ankle against the Portland Trail Blazers.

But on the morning of Golden State's Oct. 31 season opener, Curry and the Warriors agreed to terms on a four-year, $44 million extension.

"New Warriors general manager Bob Myers and [Joe] Lacob felt Curry was still worth the risk given the point guard's production when healthy," Marc Stein wrote at the time.

Absolutely nobody thought Curry would become a three-time NBA champion, two-time NBA MVP and revolutionize the game of basketball.

Curry on Monday became the Warriors' all-time leading scorer, and Draymond Green on Tuesday night posted a picture to Instagram in celebration of that accomplishment.

When asked after shootaround Wednesday why he feels it's so important to honor his teammate in the present, part of Draymond's answer included a trip down memory lane to October 2012.

"I remember like it was yesterday," Green said. "My rookie year and Steph was coming back in town. The whole front office [and] ownership -- everybody was lined up on the sideline watching his workout because he was just coming off ankle surgery.

"And they were discussing an extension. It reminded me of a pre-draft workout. I remember those days and where he's come from, and where he is today and all that he's gone through to get there.

"And so to just share that moment with him and let him know, 'Bro, you are appreciated. As long as I'm around, you're gonna be celebrated.' And everybody around when I'm around is gonna celebrate him, too. He's earned that."
