Draymond: Warriors will win championship regardless of seed

Share

Draymond Green has very high expectations for this Warriors squad, regardless of where they finish in the Western Conference standings.

After beating the Washington Wizards 126-112 at Chase Center on Monday night, Golden State (47-22) moved into a tie with the Memphis Grizzlies (47-22) for the No. 2 seed in the West.

With the Phoenix Suns likely claiming the No. 1 seed, it appears as if Golden State will either finish second or third in the conference. It doesn't matter which seed they finish with. In Draymond's eyes, the Warriors are winning it all regardless.

"Obviously the two seed will be great, but we're not chasing it," Draymond told NBC Sports Bay Area's Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike. "We're going to make sure we do everything we can to stay healthy coming down the stretch, not going to make any boneheaded decisions trying to chase the two seed. Whether we're two seed or three seed, we're going to win a championship, so it don't really matter."

Immediately after his answer, Fitzgerald made sure he heard him correctly.

"You're just calling that right now to finish off the postgame interview?" Fitzgerald asked.

"Yeah I called it months ago," Draymond added.

Klay Thompson certainly agreed with Draymond.

"Yes," Thompson said. "I mean ... I do. I'm too much of a competitor to sit up here and doubt our team or give another team the nod over us. No chance."

Heard loud and clear.

Winners of four straight games, a much healthier Warriors squad is surging at the perfect time. With the playoffs quickly approaching, it's hard to envision any team stopping Golden State's momentum.
