Draymond on Celtics fans' chants, playing villain role

Draymond Green is used to being the villain.

He plays with emotion, trash talks constantly and loves to get under opponents’ skin. Through three games in the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, Green has done all three things – and then some.

The Warriors forward drew raucous boos and a vulgar chant from the crowd at TD Garden on Wednesday for Game 3, with Green’s antics in Game 2 fresh on the minds of Celtics fans.

Green told reporters after the game that he didn’t really have a reaction as the crowd chanted “Draymond sucks,” and another NSFW jeer.

“No, they just talking,” Green said. “Not really my job to react to them. They did what I expected.”

Green added that he likes playing the role of the villain.

“I embrace it,” Green said. “I enjoy it. I didn't really feed off of it tonight. I don't think I fed off much tonight.”

Unfortunately for Green, his success in drawing the TD Garden crowd’s ire did not translate to success on the court. He had just two points, three assists and four rebounds in the Warriors’ 116-100 Game 3 loss as the Celtics took a two-games-to-one lead.

Green also fouled out in the fourth quarter as the Celtics pulled away, erasing what had been an 18-point comeback by the Warriors.

But Green doesn’t plan on changing his ways for Game 4 on Friday when Celtics fans will almost certainly lob more jeers at him.

“That’s something that I enjoy,” Green said. “Waste a lot of energy talking to me, so it's great. Looking forward to Friday.”
